Answer a few questions about your financial goals so EmberFy can tailor your experience.
Set Up Budget Categories
Go to Budget and create categories that match your spending (e.g., Housing, Food, Transport).
Add Your First Expense
Log an expense to start tracking. You can do this from the Budget page or by asking the AI Coach.
Your dashboard is the home base with three tabs:
Overview
Monthly summary of income, expenses, savings rate, and your FIRE progress at a glance.
Spending
Visual breakdown of where your money goes — charts, trends, and category comparisons.
Goals
Track progress toward your financial goals and see upcoming milestones.
Budget & Expenses
Track every dollar and stay on top of your spending
Organize your spending with categories (e.g., "Food") and subcategories (e.g., "Groceries", "Dining Out").
Go to Budget from the sidebar
Click 'Add Category' to create a new spending category
Click into a category to add subcategories for finer tracking
Drag categories to reorder them by priority
Record your spending as it happens, or batch-enter at the end of the day.
Click 'Add Expense' on the Budget page
Select a category, enter the amount and date
Add an optional description for reference
Or just tell the AI Coach: 'I spent $45 on groceries'
Set up expenses that repeat every month so you don't have to log them manually.
Go to Budget → Recurring tab
Add recurring items like rent, subscriptions, or utilities
They'll be auto-logged at the start of each month
Tip: Recurring expenses save you time and ensure your budget always reflects your fixed costs.
Set a target budget for each category and track your income sources.
On the Budget page, click a category's budget cell to set a monthly limit
Use the Income tab to add income sources (salary, freelance, etc.)
The Spending tab shows charts comparing budgeted vs. actual spending
Net Worth Tracking
Monitor your overall financial health over time
Your net worth = assets minus liabilities. Start by creating categories for each.
Assets
Cash, investments, retirement accounts, property value
Liabilities
Mortgage, student loans, credit card debt, car loan
Go to Net Worth from the sidebar
Add or update values for each asset and liability category
Entries are tracked by month — update once a month for best results
You can add past months to build historical data
Tip: Consistency matters more than precision. Logging approximate values monthly gives you a clear trend over time.
The net worth chart shows your total assets, total liabilities, and net worth over time. You can see month-over-month changes and identify trends. The chart updates automatically as you log new entries.
Goals & Roadmaps
Set financial targets and follow guided paths to reach them
Go to Goals from the sidebar
Click 'Add Goal' and choose a type (savings, debt payoff, investment, etc.)
Set a target amount and optional deadline
Track progress as you update your net worth and expenses
Roadmaps are guided financial paths with milestones. They break big goals into actionable steps.
Start a roadmap from the Goals page
Each roadmap has milestones that sync to your goals
Some milestones auto-detect completion from your net worth data
Complete milestones to advance through the roadmap
